How look after vegan faux leather bags

PU leather (made from polyutherthane) or as we know it, vegan leather, needs to be cared for to ensure its durability and quality.

Vegan PU leather is a durable and resilient fabric that already contains water resistant qualities. This means you will not need a leather cleaner, or leather protector to ensure the durability of your bag. A water resistant spray isn't going to do any damage if you have used one but it won't make a fundamental difference to the vegan leather. However to maintain the durability of this water resistant fabric you will need to clean and condition your bags.

Some care tips that we recommend for your vegan leather bags are as follows...

Clean! - We would recommend giving your bags a dust down with a microfibre or dust cloth between use. After each use we would recommend cleaning with a soft cloth and warm water to remove any lingering dirt. For more stubborn marks or stains we recommend a soft cloth and warm water with a little fabric detergent.

To get inbetween the intricate metal detailing you can use a small amount of dish soap and water with a toothbrush.

For oil based stains, experts say that gently patting the stain with a bit of cornstarch, leaving it to absorb the stain for about 2 minutes then gently rubbing can help lift out a stubborn oil stain.

Conditioning - Conditioning vegan PU leather is a great way to ensure that the water resistant material doesn't dry out, it can also help in preventing sunlight damage. Typically you'd want to do this once a month but please check the instructions of the PU leather conditioner you decide to use.

Storage - We recommend not storing your bags anywhere that gets direct sunlight as this can cause discolouration or fading of designs.

Don't stack your bags when not in use, the metal hardware can cause impressions or scratch other bags.

If you can, pop them individually in a soft bag to help reduce dust and sunlight exposure between each use.

We hope these tips and tricks help your vegan leather bags live their best lives! Let us know in the comments if you have any further tips.
